Neuropsychological testing

Neuropsychological evaluation is an assessment of how one's brain functions, which indirectly yields information about the structural and functional integrity of the brain. Our neuropsychological evaluation involves an interview and the administration of tests. We use these tests to determine a pattern of cognitive strengths and weaknesses and, in turn, to understand more about how the brain is functioning to provide the best course of treatment. Results of this test are shared with the patient and family member and is then able to be used as a “road map” for best ways to complete activities of daily living and other functional tasks.

A typical neuropsychological evaluation will involve assessment of the following:
• General intellect
• Higher level executive skills (sequencing/reasoning/problem solving)
• Attention and concentration
• Learning and memory
• Language
• Visual–spatial skills (e.g., perception)
• Motor and sensory skills
• Information processing skills
• Mood and personality
